초록
Korean Dokebi iconography was primarily formed during the colonial period under the influence of Japanese Oni iconography. This paper details this process. Specifically, by focusing on the illustrations of the "Hokburi Old Man" included in the "Chosengodokuhon" and "Kokugodokuhon" (Japanese), both published by the Chosensoutokufu (Japanese Government-General) of Korea during the colonial period, this paper presents the process leading up to the "birth" of Dokebi iconography based on Oni iconography. The starting point for the formation of Dokebi iconography was the illustration of the "Hokburi Old Man" included in the "Chosengodokuhon" during the colonial period. However, at this time, the Dokebi iconography influenced by Japanese Oni iconography had not yet fully taken root. In other words, this period was a time in which Japanese Oni iconography was selected as one of several options. Korean Dokebi iconography overlapped with the Oni illustrations included in the "Kokugodokuhon" (Japanese), leading to the expression of Dokebi iconography based on Japanese Oni iconography. There is currently a vibrant movement in Korea to reconstruct the image of the Dokebi. I will keep an eye on this trend going forward.
