화이트헤드의 파악(prehension)과 다르마키르티의 인식(pramāṇa)에 관한 비교연구

Abstract

This paper compares the thought systems of A. N. Whitehead and Dharmakīrti. In particular, this paper aims to explore the similarity between the prehension of Whitehead and the pramāṇa of Dharmakīrti. More specifically, the purpose of this paper is to compare the meanings, the structures, and the processes of creation of Whitehead’s prehension on the one hand, and Dharmakīrti’s pramāṇa on the other. The meanings of Whitehead’s prehension and Dharmakīrti’s pramāṇa have much in common in that both focus on the relation (緣起) or relativity (緣起性), rather than on the property of existence or existence itself. In addition, there is a common point of view in that the structure of Whitehead’s prehension and the structure of Dharmakīrti’s pramāṇa consist of three components, that is, the prehending subject and grāhya (能取形相), the prehended object and grāhaka (所取形相), and the subjective form and pramāṇaphala. Finally, like Whitehead’s prehension which is generated by the objective datum, Dharmakīrti’s pramāṇa is also generated by the circumstances of the momentary past. In this respect, the two thought systems have a common point of contact.
