초록
Objectives : To report a case of primary suturing for a laceration performed by a doctor of Korean medicine as an emergency intervention, and to explore the potential for expanding the role of Korean medicine in acute wound management. Methods : An 86-year-old male inpatient with Parkinson’s disease sustained a 3.5 ㎝ × 1.0 ㎝ laceration on the right second digit following contact with an unidentified object. After saline irrigation and povidone-iodine disinfection, local anesthesia was achieved using Bufonis Venenum pharmacopuncture. A simple suture was performed, followed by application of a herbal ointment and administration of Yeongyopaedoksan. Results : The wound demonstrated stable primary healing without adverse effects. Suture removal was performed 16 days after the procedure, and complete wound closure was observed. Korean medicine treatment also contributed to favorable clinical outcomes. Conclusions : This case demonstrates that primary suturing of acute lacerations may be effectively and safely performed by a practitioner of Korean medicine. This provides evidence to support the potential role of Korean medicine in the surgical management of emergency wounds.
