결사체 활동, 종류, 그리고 결사체의 민주주의적 효과 - 정치적 자아 발달에 대한 효과를 중심으로 -

본 연구에서는 결사체의 의미와 결사체 민주주의의 의미를 논의하고, 결사체가 그것에 가입한 시민들에게 민주주의적 학습 효과, 즉 민주적인 정치적 자아발달 효과를 가져 올 것으로 가정하고 그에 대한 경험적 조사를 실시하고 검증하였다. 조사 연구 결과를 몇 가지로 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 민주적인 정치적 자아발달의 다섯 가지 차원(정치적 효능감, 정치적 정보획득, 정치적 기술, 비판·심의 기술, 시민덕성)의 실태를 살펴보면, 정치적 효능감, 정치적 정보획득, 정치적 기술, 비판·심의 기술 차원에 있어서 상당수의 긍정적인 응답이 나타났고 부정적인 응답은 적은 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 시민덕성에서는 그 보다 더 높은 정도의 빈도가 나타났다. 따라서 전반적으로 볼 때 민주적인 정치적 자아발달 정도는 중상인 것으로 평가된다. 둘째, 결사체 활동에 해당하는 두 가지 변수 중 월 참여횟수는 그 어느 민주주의적 정치적 자아 차원에도 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치지 않았으나, 가입 결사체 수는 정치적 효능감, 정치적 정보획득, 정치적 기술에는 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 연계성이 강한 결사체일수록 정치적 효능감, 정치적 정보획득, 정치적 기술, 비판적·심의적 기술, 시민덕성에서 더 높은 평균을 나타내 보였다. 아울러 동일한 연계성 내 집단에서도 하위 집단간 차이를 나타내 보였는데 특히 연계성이 낮은 집단 내에서 그러한 현상이 나타났다.
Abstract
This article discusses about meaning of associational democracy, and assumes that associational life(degree of participation in associations, kinds of associations) will lead citizens to become democratic political self. Several hypotheses were tested empirically. The results are the followings. Firstly, there are much positive responses in each four dimensions of democratic political self(political efficacy, acquisition of political information, political skills, political critical·deliberative skills), and there are much more positive responses in civic virtue dimension. Thus the realities of five dimensions of democratic political self are mid-high level. Secondly, participation in association per month did not influence on any dimensions of democratic political self, but number of affiliations in association influenced on political efficacy, acquisition of political information, political skills. Thirdly, connectedness of associations influences of political efficacy, acquisition of political information, political skills, political critical·deliberative skills, and civic virtue. Concludingly, number of affiliations in association and kinds(connectedness) of associations were major factors which bring democratic political self.
