본 연구에서는 미술교육의 사회ㆍ문화적 역할을 제고할 수 있는 다양한 이론과 개념들을 관계적으로 살펴보고 사회문화예술교육의 맥락에서 미술교육의 방향을 포괄적으로 제시하고자 하였다. 여러 분야의 관점들이 융합하고 통합되는 현 시점에서 미술교육의 본질적인 가치에 집중하기 보다는 미술교육의 사회적 필요성을 뒷받침하고 명료화할 수 있는 개념들을 간학문적으로 고찰하였다. ‘소수자를 포함한 모든 계층에게 제공되는 평등한 문화예술교육’을 목표로 하고 있는 사회문화예술교육의 형성과정과 지원사업의 방향을 통하여 미술교육에 대한 현 사회의 요구와 관심을 설명하였다. 또한 사회재건주의와 다문화미술교육에서 논의되었던 미술교육의 사회적 역할을 재조명하고 아동의 권리, 복지, 시민의식 등 사회적 이슈를 포괄할 수 있는 미술교육의 필요성을 논하였다. 이와 같은 이론적, 정책적 고찰을 토대로 평생교육, 창의성, 문화적 문해, 문화적 역량, 문화 어울림의 키워드를 중심으로 미술교육을 재개념화하고, 사회문화예술교육에서 교육과정 설계의 방향을 논의하였다. 따라서 본 연구는 미술교육에 관한 논의의 폭을 예술교육의 관점과 교육학적, 사회학적 개념을 통하여 확장하고자 한 시도라 할 수 있다. 급변하는 사회의 변화 속에서 문화예술교육에 대한 요구가 확대되고 있는 현 시점에서 미술교육에 관한 담론의 폭을 확장하고 사회문화예술교육의 틀 안에서 미술교육의 개념적 지도를 개괄적으로 제시하고자 한 점에 본 연구의 의의가 있다. 본 연구에서 사용된 미술교육을 통한 정체성, 사회참여, 복지, 권리 등의 개념은 후속 연구를 통하여 보다 심도 있게 다루어져야 할 것이다. 또한 평생의 여정으로서, 미래 사회를 대비하는 창의성 교육으로서, 문화적 문해력과 역량, 그리고 문화 나눔으로서 사회 안에서 미술교육이 실천되기 위한 교육과정의 구체적인 내용과 방법에 대한 연구가 뒤따라야 할 것이다. 본 연구를 통하여 미술교육의 새로운 방향을 모색하고 사회 변화에 적극적으로 대응하기 위한 담론들이 활성화되기를 기대한다.
Abstract
The field of arts education including art education in Korea has experienced a dynamic change in the beginning of the 21st century. Despite the fact that the social demands and supports for arts education has expanded, art in school has encroached due to the burden and pressure of competition. Considering this ironical situation of art education, this study attempts to search the ways to re-define the social role of art education in the context of the Extended Arts and Culture Education. The ‘context’ is regarded as the flux of social, political, and economic changes in interaction of theory and practice. Thus, the discussion of the context of art education from the socio-cultural perspective encompasses arts educational policies, social and educational theories and discourses on arts education. The cross-disciplinary approach of this study purports to expand the framework of art education and to provide a shifted vision for art education. The purpose of this study is to project a conceptual map for art education in the context of social, cultural, and political change in Korea. Thus, the extensive theoretical research on each concepts such as identity, social justice, or welfare in association with art education should follow in the future research. In addition, the development of curriculum or instructional methods that would actualize the proposed objectives of art education in the social context is out of the scope of this study. Therefore, it is expected that this study could initiate further discussions on how art education can benefit diverse populations and prepare them for the future society.
