Implications of Eco-Aesthetics for Art and Education

생태학(ecology)은 다양한 생물과 환경의 관계를 연구하는 자연과학의 영역으로 보는 것이 일반적이었지만, 오늘날에는 생태적 가치관에 기반한 하나의 세계관으로 확장되어 가치 철학(axiology)을 비롯하여 사회학, 경제학, 교육학은 물론 미학과 미술의 영역으로 확장되었다. 생태미학은 이러한 생태적 관점을 바탕으로 한 미학으로 단순히 환경을 주제로 한 미술작품을 논하는 미학적 관점이라기보다는 생태학적 가치관에 기초하여 미술전반을 이해하려는 미학적 접근이다. 연구자는 생태 담론에 대한 문헌조사를 통해, 맥락성 (혹은 장소성), 평등성, 조화의 세 가지 가치관이 생태 철학의 가장 중요한 요소라는 결론을 도출하였다. 본 연구에서는 이 세 가지 가치를 바탕으로 일반적으로 환경미술이라 불리는 미술작품에 대해 얼마나 맥락적 혹은 장소 특정적인 가치를 담아내고 있는지, 또 얼마나 평등한 관점을 견지하는지, 그리고 다양한 관점에서 조화로움을 추구하고 있는지를 환경미술협회와 바깥미술회의 활동을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 더불어 생태미학적 관점이 환경미술 외의 다른 미술 장르에는 어떻게 적용될 수 있는지 민중미술의 예를 통해 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 생태미학의 교육적 함의에 대해 장소기반교육(place-based education), 생태정의교육(eco-justice education), 그리고 협업의 중요성을 강조하는 교육 등의 시도를 생태미학이 견지하는 가치를 반영한 교육적 시도의 예로 살펴보았다.
