초록
The aim of this paper to analyze the phenomena of /ln/ sequences within the view of Government Phonology in terms of diachronic and synchronic perspective. Diachronically, l-deletion occurs before coronal segments such as /n, t, s and ʧ/ in both verbal and nominal environments in the period of the Middle Korean. Synchronically, however, /ln/ sequences aɾe not well-formed. In this regard. these sequences must be well-forms. In suffixation, /l/ is deleted in verbal environments and /n/ is realized as /l/ in nominal circumstances. In this respect, l-deletion and lateralization for /ln/ sequences have identical environments. Thus, l-deletion applies, then, lateralization is not realized, and vice versa in Comtemporary Korean. In terms of Government Phonology, syllable structure of Korean explains that a final consonant occupies an onset rather than a coda. This approach is radically different from the mainstream one, among other reason, because this syllabification requires a following empty nucleus. With respect to segmental structure, Government Phonology takes the ultimate unit of segment to be the monovalent element. In this paper, the segmental representations of Korean are based on eight elements. On the basis of syllable structure and eight monovalent elements, we analyze the phenomena of /ln/-sequences.
