Abstract
The main purpose of this study was to investigate Video Game- Based Exercise for upper-extremity function, strength, visual perception of stroke patients. Twenty seven subjects were recruited by means of a convenience sampling from Seoul S hospital. The subjects were divided into two groups: Video Game-Based Exercise group was fourteen and a general exercise group was thirteen. Video Game-Based Exercise group had a treatment for 30 minutes, 3 times a day and 5 days a week during 5 weeks period. Moreover, Video Game- Based Exercise group was added a treatment for 40 minutes a day and 5 days a week during 5 weeks period. A general exercise group had a treatment for 30 minutes, 3 times a day and 5 days a week during 5 weeks period. Upper-extremity function, strength and visual perception were measured prior to commencement of the exercise programs, and again after five weeks, when the programs were completed, in order to establish the effectiveness of both exercise programs. The results of this study were summarized as follows:Video Game-Based Exercise group and A general exercise group were effective at increasing Upper-extremity function, strength and visual perception (p<.05). Strength of internal rotation of shoulder, strength of external rotation of shoulder, Upper-extremity function and visual perception of Video Game-Based Exercise group was more significantly increased than A general exercise group. Therefore, Video Game-Based Exercise is considered to important when the stroke patients are treated. Further studies of effectiveness of Upper- extremity function, strentgth and visual perception should be carried out to increase our understanding of this area of study.
