Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the cognitive motor dual task using the auditory effects on chronic stroke patients’ gait and their attention. Thirty-seven participants took part in this study and was allocated them into two groups at random after measuring their gait and attention. Both groups received a conventional physical therapy within one or two hours, five times a week for four weeks. In addition, auditory dual task was performed for experimental group and treadmill walking was performed for control group. Both groups were trained at a preferred speed in 1~4 session, at a 10% increased speed from that in 5~8 session and at a 20% increased speed in 9~12 session. Each group was trained fifteen minutes three times a week for four weeks. Followings are the specific results of the cognitive motor dual task using the auditory feedback. Experimental group has been shown the significant improvement in temporal and spatial gait parameter(p<.05). They has significantly improved in their attention(p<.05), but there is no significant difference between two groups. Proceeding from this fact, one could logically assume that cognitive motor dual task using the auditory feedback improves chronic stroke patients’ gait, balance, and their attention. For all the reasons given previously, I am convinced that it could be actively used in clinic added to the conventional physical therapy in the future.
