Abstract

This study was to investigate the effect of postural balance, static balance, dynamic balance and independent gait ability through Visuo- perceptual task exercise in chronic stroke patients. Twenty persons after eight months post stroke were participated and designed group into pretest-posttest control. The subjects were randomly allocated to two groups. Two groups was practiced with physical therapy and experimental group received a additional Visuo-perceptual training. The following results were obtained; First, The TUG in dynamic balance test were significantly decreased (p < .05), but the functional reach test(FRT) were significantly increased (p < .05). In postural balance measurement, the Stability Index(STI) and Weight Distribution Index(WDI) of open eye and close eye on the force plate surface and on a pillow were significantly decreased(p < .05). Second, the 10m gait velocity of Independent gait were significantly increased(p < .05) in experimental group. In conclusion, theses results lead us to conclusion that the Visuo- perceptual task exercise increase a functional activity by postural adjustment and gait learning of chronic stroke patients, in comparison with control group. A continuous examination of the Visuo-perceptual training could practical used of physical therapy with exercise.
