Abstract
This study is associated with working memory abilities of children with intellectual disabilities. Working memory is very important for learning and daily functioning, but it is hardly studied in children with intellectual disabilities. Working memory strengths and weaknesses in children with mild intellectual disabilities are explored by comparing their performance with that of control groups of typically developing children. In addition, everyday memory is studied as it is assumed to rely on working memory processes. Finally, a computerized working memory training is developed and it’s effectiveness on working memory performance and related cognitive abilities is investigated. The result of this study is as follows. First, The result is consistent with a developmental delay account of children with mild intellectual disabilities. The finding of a phonological- loop capacity deficit has important implications for the remedial training of mild intellectual disabilities. Second, The result holds implications for the demands imposed on children with mild intellectual disabilities in education and daily life. of associated with statistically significant between everyday memory and working memory. Third, The result indicates that working memory training can be effective in children with mild intellectual disabilities.
