Abstract

The purpose of this study was to establish reliability of the Motor Assessment Scale translated into Korean for patients with stroke. The MAS was administered to assess eight components of motor function. They completed a standardized, supine to side lying onto intact side, supine to sitting over the side of the bed, balanced sitting, sitting to standing, walking, upper arm function, hand movement, advanced hand activities. Twenty-three physiotherapists assessed the functional movements of twenty-three patients (14 males, 9 females) with stroke according to the MAS. Interrater and intrarater reliability was determined by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Interrater reliability of the translated version of the MAS was good ICC=.99 and the intrarater reliability of the translated versions of the MAS was also good ICC=.87~.99 without items 1 and 3. We concluded that the Korean version of the MAS has demonstrated to be a reliable instrument for the assessment of patients with stroke.
