(Timed Up & Go test, TUG),
Abstract
This study is a cross-sectional study using convenience sampling. The subjects of the study are chronic stoke patients and the purpose is to determine the reliability, validity, causality and discrimination of Sit to Stand test(STS test)that repeat the sit to stand with five times. Subjects were classified into three groups: 20’s adults(n =19), 50’s adults(n =19) and chronic stroke patients(n =36). Outcome measures are STS, strength of lower extremity(dynamometer), Berg balance scale(BBS), Timed Up & Go test(TUG) and Fugl-Meyer Lower/Extremity (FM-L/E). This study found that the STS test has high reliability in stroke patients (ICC=.876) and has relevance to knee flexor(r =-.47 ~ -.73) and extensor(r =-.65 ~ -.67) as well as BBS(r =-.64), TUG(r =.49) and FM-L/E(r =-.58). The results of factor analysis are unaffected knee flexor, affected knee extensor and BBS affected the STS test(γ2 87%). Also, the value of discrimination with comparing the performance of STS test is ≥11.29 seconds(area under the curve .79) between the 50’s healthy adults and the stroke patients. Thus, we identified that the STS test has reliability, validity and discrimination in stroke patients and available tool in clinical settings. Further studies will have to do sensitivity analysis of the STS test that identify the duration of disease and functional recovery after therapeutic intervention.
