Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine 1) the perception of special education teachers on offering postsecondary education(PSE) program for students with developmental disabilities and 2) how PSE program could be improved. In this study, a mixed method design including quantitative survey and qualitative in- depth interview were utilized. First, through quantitative survey method, the effective PSE program components and roles of personnel involved in PSE program were suggested. In addition, in-depth interviews with special education teachers who have at least 10 years teaching experiences were implemented in order to investigate the current status of PSE program and strategies for improving the quality of PSE program. The results of in-depth interview revealed that many special education teachers perceived PSE program to be positive and effective for the students with developmental disabilities, while some desired to verify the effectiveness of PSE program. Current status of PSE program for students with developmental disabilities and strategies for improving the quality of PSE program were suggested through in-depth interview.
