다문화교육 접근법에 기초한 사회과 교과서의 장애 관련 내용에 대한 비판적 분석

본 연구의 목적은 다문화교육 접근법에 기초해서 사회과 교과서의 장애 관련 내용을 비판적으로 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 2015 개정 교육과정에 근거해 개발된 초등 사회과 교과서에 제시된 장애 관련 내용을 Banks의 다문화교육 접근법을 중심으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 사회과 교과서의 장애 관련 내용은 기여적 접근 수준에서 제시된 내용은 없었으며, 부가적 접근 수준의 내용이 가장 많았으며, 다음으로 변혁적 접근 수준의 내용이 많았다. 반면, 사회 행동적 접근 수준의 내용은 매우 부분적으로 제시되고 있었다. 따라서 사회과 교과서의 장애 관련 내용은 다양성을 존중하고, 모든 문화집단에 대한 이해와 수용을 촉진함으로써 차별과 편견을 없애고, 평등한 교육 기회와 문화적 선택을 제공하고자 하는 다문화교육의 목적을 달성하기에는 한계가 있었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 다문화 사회의 시민성 육성을 위한 사회과 교과서 구성 방향에 대해 논의하였다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to critically analyze the disability-related contents of social studies textbooks based on multicultural education approach. To this purpose, disability-related contents presented in elementary social studies textbooks developed based on the 2015 revised curriculum were analyzed focusing on Banks' multicultural education approach. As a result of the analysis, disability-related content in social studies textbooks was not presented at the contributive approach level, and the content at the additive approach level was the most common, followed by the content at the transformative approach level. On the other hand, the contents of the social action approach level were presented very partially. Therefore, disability-related content in social studies textbooks has limitations in achieving the goal of multicultural education, which is to respect diversity, eliminate discrimination and prejudice by promoting understanding and acceptance of all cultural groups, and provide equal educational opportunities and cultural choices. Based on these results, the direction of social studies textbook for fostering citizenship in a multicultural society was discussed.
