본 연구에서는 발달장애 성인 자녀 어머니가 경험한 가족 경험의 과정과 가족 경험에 영향을 미치는 요인과 요인 간의 상호작용은 어떠한지 살펴보고 이를 어떻게 유형화하는지 알아보고자 하였다. 연구 참여자는 만 20세 이상의 발달장애 성인 자녀 자녀를 둔 7명의 어머니이다. 연구 참여자는 연구자와 3차례 이상의 만남을 가지고 1회의 개별 심층 면담을 하였다. 수집된 자료는 질적연구 방법론 중 하나인 근거이론으로 제시하였고, 자료 분석은 개방 코딩, 축 코딩, 선택 코딩 방법을 이용하였다. 개방 코딩 결과 발달장애 성인 자녀 어머니의 가족 경험은 156개의 개념과 39개의 하위 범주, 11개의 상위범주로 도출되었다. 축 코딩으로 ‘끝날 것 같지 않은 돌봄 스트레스’와 ‘일상에서의 무력감’을 중심 현상으로 하는 패러다임 모형을 제시하였고, 과정 분석을 통해 발달장애 성인 자녀 어머니의 가족 경험은 ‘대처’와 ‘조정’, ‘재적응’의 단계로 나타나는 것으로 확인하였다. 선택 코딩에서 도출된 핵심 범주는 ‘일반적이지 않은 일상에서 일반적인 행복을 찾아가는 과정’이다. 발달장애 성인 자녀 어머니의 가족 경험 유형은 ‘적응형’, ‘희망형’, 두려움형’, ‘체념형’으로 구분되었다. 발달장애 성인 자녀 어머니는 자녀가 성인이 되었음에도 양육에 대한 부담을 가지고, 긴 기간으로 신체적, 정서적, 사회적 어려움을 보였다. 하지만 가족 공동체가 주는 편안함과 위안, 가족과 주변의 공감과 이해, 안전한 사회적 지원과 같은 자원으로 다시 살아갈 힘을 얻었다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the family experience of mothers of adult children with developmental disabilities, as well as to examine what factors affect family experiences, what the process is like, and how they can be categorized. A total of seven mothers of adult child with developmental disabilities participated in this study. The researcher met participants more than three times and held individual in-depth interviews with each. The collected data was analyzed by dividing it into open coding, axial coding, and selective coding, which is one of the analysis methods of grounded theory. Through open coding, the family experiences of mothers revealed 156 concepts, 39 subcategories, and 11 categories. Axial coding identified 'endless care giving stress' and 'powerlessness in daily life' as central phenomena presenting a paradigm model. The analysis of the process revealed stages of 'coping,' 'adjustment,' and 'readaptation.' Through selective coding, the core category emerged as the 'process of finding ordinary happiness in an extraordinary daily life.' Lastly, mothers were categorized into four types: 'adaptive,' 'hopeful,' 'fearful,' and 'resigned.'
