Abstract
This study aimed to explore psychosocial factors influencing school adjustment in elementary school students with disabilities by examining the structural relationships among family functioning, self-esteem, depression, and school adjustment. The analysis utilized SPSS and Mplus. A confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to assess the validity of the measurement model, and structural equation modeling was applied to test the structural relationships among key variables. The significance of mediation effects was evaluated using the bootstrapping method. Data were drawn from the fifth wave (2022) of the Panel Survey of the Quality of Life of Persons with Disabilities conducted by the Korea Disabled People’s Development Institute. The final sample consisted of 282 elementary school students with disabilities, excluding cases with missing values for key variables. The results showed that family functioning had a direct effect on self-esteem, depression, and school adjustment; self-esteem significantly affected depression; and depression significantly influenced school adjustment. Additionally, both the individual mediating effects of self-esteem and depression, as well as the sequential dual mediation effect of self-esteem and depression in the relationship between family functioning and school adjustment, were statistically significant. Based on these findings, policy implications are suggested to support the school adjustment of elementary students with disabilities.
