The custom research in the period of the Residency-General(統監府) was carried out by the institute on research of the land law(不動産法調査會), the research bureau on a code of laws(法典調査局), the interim adjustment bureau on the property of royal family(臨時財産整理局). The basic recognition was formed by the institute on research of the land law and was succeeded to the subsequent custom research. It was the sight of a civilized country and Japanese civil law that provide basic frame to the custom research of the institute on research of the land law. Korean custom on the land right was put in order in the problematic of Japanese civil law, comparing uncivilized Korean custom with civilized Japanese civil law. The custom on the land right put in order by the institute on research of the land law is not the distortion of Chosun custom by Japanese civil law, not the representation of Chosun custom, but the making of new Chosen custom. It is the making of colonial custom in that it is the Chosun custom chosen, explained, decided by colonial power for colonial control. The arrangement of land right carried out by the institute on research of the land law was occupied the position as the Chosun custom through the subsequent custom research. In this process, the habitual practices developing diversily according to each region were occupied it's new position or were disappeared. The colonial custom made bv the custom research in the period of the Residency-General presaged the reformation of the colonial custom and the conflict over the reformation.
