영천 청제비의 재검토

Abstract

This paper focuses on Byungjin(丙辰) inscription(AD 536) and Jungwon(貞元) inscription(AD 798) of the Chunje(菁堤) Stele. The purpose of this research is to clarify how did the government mobilize rural people to build irrigation facilities. Based on twice investigations of the original monuments, the transcription were reviewed again and efforts were made to better understand the ston monuments using those results. About Byungjin inscription, “谷(gog)” was newly read in the first line. And I pointed out the possibility that “□□谷(gog)” was the name of the place where the Chunje Stele is located. The breakdown of “Sain(使人)”, dispatched from the capital, was clarified. I newly pointed out the job title “Iljigaegin(一支客人)”, that have not been read so far. It is presumed that they were lower-level officers who received instructions from “Sain(使人)”. In addition, I made clear that “ganji(干支)” of the last line were “wewi(外位)”, and the man with a title of ganji is estimated to be the local chief. It is thought that the people of the capital were mainly mobilized as a labor force for building levees. About Jungwon inscription, “Baek(百)” was newly read on the ninth line. This revealed that the people of the two counties, “Jolfa(切火)” and “Apryang(押梁)”, which were thought to be supplementarily mobilized so far, were actually the mainstay of mobilization. On the twelfth line, 3rd and 4th characters were interpreted as “Sufue(須喙)” and regarded as the name of the Bu(部), but they must be read as “donryang(頓梁)”. And this is the part of the job title and person name.
