Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of healthy behavior and psychosocial factors in the relationship between socioeconomic factors and children’s health inequality in Korea. The three main research inquiries were as follows. First, do socioeconomic factors, healthy behaviors, and psychosocial factors have an effect on children’s health inequality? Second, do healthy behaviors have mediating effects in the relationship between socioeconomic factors and children’s health inequality? Third, do psychosocial factors have mediating effects in the relationship between socioeconomic factors and children’s health inequality? The data for analysis came from Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018(KCYPS 2018), and 2607 fourth grade students in elementary school were analyzed. Results show that experiences of socioeconomic factors, healthy behaviors, and psychosocial factors all affect children’s health inequality. Also, healthy behavior and psychosocial factors partially mediated the relationship between socioeconomic factors and children’s health inequality. Based on these results, the researchers suggest practical interventions to reduce children’s health inequality.
