초록
This study focuses on the multiple occurrence of place and time adverbials in a sentence. When it comes to adverbial placement, there are three basic ordering rules: distance + direction + position, time duration + time frequency + time position, and place + time, and four principles: emphasis/contrast, end-focus, end-weight and cohesion. However, these rules and principles are often violated in the sentences containing multiple place and time adverbials. Moreover, when emphasis and end-focus are applied to these sentences, confusion may arise in regard to information focus. Therefore, two alternative principles titled end-ground and importance-first are proposed to deal with the problems and limitations.
