초록

This paper examines the effects of sex, consonants, and vowels on voice onset time (VOT) patterns of the Korean adult speakers. VOT data for the plosives /p,t,k/ in four vowel contexts /i,u,ə,a/ were compared between males and females. Statistical analysis showed that sex, vowels, and consonants all affected VOT values. The interactions between factors varied. The interactions between sex and vowels and between sex and consonants were significantly different. However, no interactions between vowels and consonants or among sex, vowels and consonants were found. Thus, the factors of sex, vowels, consonants all have a strong influence on VOT values, but more importantly, sex is an absolute factor for VOT study.
