초록

The structures of nouns and verbs have been discussed a lot from thestandpoint of morphology. Beyond this point of view, however, whenwe look into the inside of these words from a different angle of thesemantic structure we can see the new semantic feature components. A lot of English words in the noun category can be transformed intothe words in the verb category without affixation. When the categoryis changed, we can analyze the semantic structure of the word in theverb category and figure out the semantic structure of the word in thenoun category by observing the directionality that the converted verbfrom a noun shows. As a result, the path element is observed in themeaning structure of the English verb and on the basis of this we canconstruct the complex meaning structure of an English noun includingthis path element, which presents the meaning directionality in thesentence when it is converted into a verb. This analysis can be donebetter by comparing the same things in Korean because of the distinctdifferences in the semantic structure of a word between English andKorean
