파생명사의 의미 형성 원리－구문 형태론적 접근－

이 논문은 국어의 용언 파생명사의 의미 형성에 대하여 인지언어학의 구문 형태론(Booij 2010)의 관점을 적용하여 논의하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 특히 국어의 파생 명사 중 ‘―이’, ‘―음’, ‘―기’에 의해 파생된 명사를 대상으로 한다. 이들은 동사나 형용사에서 명사로 품사 범주의 전환이 이루어졌으며, 파생어의 의미 또한 다양하게 실현된다. 그동안 국어 파생어 연구에서는 접사 중심의 연구가 대부분이었다. 이 연구에서는 접사 중심의 연구 대신에 어기 단어와 파생어의 의미 관계를 통해 파생어의 의미 형성 원리를 밝히고자 한다. 이 연구에서는 파생어의 의미 연구를 위해 인지 언어학의 구문 문법을 채용한다. 구문 문법의 관점에서 파생어도 일종의 구문을 형성하여 형태와 의미의 쌍을 형성한다. 또한 파생어 단어 형성 패턴에서 추상적 스키마를 상정할 수 있으며 이 스키마에 의해서 단어의 의미가 결정되고 새로운 단어 의미도 생성되는 것으로 보았다. 또한 용언 파생명사의 의미는 용언의 사건 구조의 참여자가 바로 파생 명사의 의미로 실현되는 것을 밝혔다.
Abstract
This study looked into the semantic formation of Korean derivational nouns using cognitive morphology(Booij 2010) from the field of cognitive linguistics. In particular, derivational nouns ending with suffixes -yi, -eum, and -ki were analyzed through principles of semantic formation. Derived from verbs or adjectives, these derivational nouns changed word class and had multiple meanings. Studies on Korean derivational words have so far focused on distinguishing the meaning of affixes from their functions, leaving the semantics of derivational words insufficiently examined. Instead of focusing on affixes, this study tried to determine the semantic formation principle of derivational words by looking in to the semantic relationship between base words and derivational words. This was done by adopting cognitive grammar to explain the semantic formation of derivational words. Analyzed from a perspective of construction grammar, derivational words formed a construction pair of form and meaning. Within patterns of derivational word formation, abstract schema could be introduced which controlled the meaning of a word and creating new meanings. It was also noted that one of entities in the verb’s event structure became the meaning of the Korean deverbal nouns.
