초록
The article argued that sociocultural factors at least can be a part of the formation of emotional metaphors through the cognitive approach to metaphors. The article observed that meaning can be a part of environment we are involved in. Lakoff(1986, 1987, 1990, 1993, 1994) and Johnson(1981, 1987, 1993, 1995) also recognized the role of cultural factors in human understanding. Furthermore, they tried to include language, values, and cultural heritage in their cognitive models. Meaning, however, constructed in cultural aspects can not find their ways in the analyses of Johnson. Lakoff did not develop and constitute them, either. Sociocultural factors can influence the choice of linguistic expressions for physical experiences of human being. The systematic investigation of social and cultural experiences allows us to know the motivational factors of metaphorical concept. The article argued that the sociocultural factors in a given language can contribute to the conceptualization of emotions. Emotions can be easily constructed and expressed by metaphors. Mainly structuralized by metaphors and metonymies, emotions can be conceptualized in different cultural contexts. For revealing the statements mentioned above, the differences on the conceptualization and linguistic sophistication of ANGER, LUST, FEAR, HAPPINESS, SORROW were described. Through this, the article identified the fact that 'emotions and emotional expressions' based on metaphors can be the kinds of sociocultural products and culture-specific metaphors can exist in different languages though they denote the same emotions cross-culturally.
