초록
The purpose of this study is twofold: To explicate the inconsistency in time orientation metaphor in terms of perspective and to explain the relative motion in the passage of time metaphor in terms of Figure and Ground organization in a motion event. The findings are as follows: First, the inconsistency in time orientation metaphor results from the direction which the observer faces, the past being located behind and the future in front, and vice versa; Second, the relative motion of the passage of time metaphor results from the attentional focus. When time receives the attentional focus, time functions as Figure and the observer as Ground, and the passage of time is conceptualized as the TIME MOVING metaphor. And when the observer receives the attentional focus, the observer functions as Figure and time as Ground, and the passage of time is conceptualized as the OBSERVER MOVING metaphor.
