초록
Three cognitive models for time proposed by Evans(2004a) are very useful in explaining the temporal concepts of English as well as many other languages. However, there are many instances where Evans(2004a)'s cognitive models cannot explain the temporal concepts of the Korean language. This paper, therefore, proposes cognitive models for time for the Korean language, adding two more cognitive models to the three already proposed by Evans(2004a). The first model is a simple time model which does not include ego-concept and sequencing relations of time. Time functions as a subject in a sentence and a predicative describes it. The second model is an active ego model. It includes ego-concept but the ego functions as an actant and time is an object of the ego's action. This paper classifies the simple time model in the category of time-based models and the active ego model in the category of ego-based models. These two models are useful in understanding temporal concepts of English and other languages.
