Abstract
Not only does a color term refer to a ‘color’ but it can also be an important means of communication to convey figurative meanings in our daily lives. For this reason, a lot of studies have been conducted in regard to color terms and their meanings over the past few decades. However, the previous studies do not explain problems which can arise from the difference in a color term and its actual color range depending on language. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze grue color terms, which show considerable difference in color cognition depending on language, and compare the color range and meanings of the grue color terms in English, Korean and Chinese. In this way, this paper will provide the characteristics of the grue color terms in these languages and figure out the linguistic universality and specificity.
