The purpose of this study is to examine the use of strategies by Korean university students at different proficiency levels in response to three item types(factual information, inferencing and insertion) on the TOEIC. A total of 77 university students participated in the study, completing a reading test and a questionnaire on strategy use for each item type. All data were analyzed using SPSS 27, with one-way ANOVA and Pearson correlation analysis. The results are as follows: First, similar strategies were used for factual information and inferencing items, while different strategies were employed for insertion items. Second, distinct strategies were observed among proficiency groups based on item types. Finally, educational implications and suggestions for future research are discussed.
