초록

술과 익숙해져 있는 우리 문화에서 알코올과 심혈관 질환과의 관계를 살펴보는 것은 중요한 일이라 생각한다. 심혈관 질환에 있어서 알코올은 적당히 마시면 도움이 되지만 과음하거나 폭음을 하면 오히려 해가 된다. 적당량의 음주 즉 남자 3잔, 여자와 노인은 2잔 정도 마시면 혈압이 하강되고, HDL 콜레스테롤이 상승되며, 응고 인자와 혈소판에 좋은 작용을 비롯한 여러 가지 기전으로 고혈압과 동맥 경화증에 도움을 준다. 그러나 그 이상 마시면 혈압이 상승하고 알코올성 심근병증, 부정맥, 심부전, 뇌출혈, 허혈성 뇌졸중 및 심장 질환 발생 등으로 건강이 악화된다. 또한 폭음은 급사와 매우 밀접한 관계를 갖고 있다. 여기에 지금까지의 여러 연구들의 자료들을 수집하여 알코올과 심혈관 질환과의 관계 및 그 기전을 정리하여 보았다.
