어떤 세계관을 가지느냐에 따라 경험의 해석이 달라지고 삶과 세계에 대한 해석이 달라진다. 동일 경험이 환상으로 치부될 수도 있고 구원의 길목이 될 수도 있다. 삶이 속히 종식 시켜버려야 할 고통의 연속일 수도 있고 축복받은 환희의 순간들일 수도 있다. 본 연구는 대표적인 세계관으로 자연주의 세계관과 이에 맞서는 초자연주의 세계관을 대비한다. 우리는 전자의 전형을 프로이드의 “과학적 세계관”에서, 그리고 후자의 전형을 루이스의 기독교적 세계관에서 찾아 볼 수 있게 된다. 논자는 이들 상반된 세계관을 갖게 하는 인식론적 근거를 묻는다. 그리하여 쥴리안 제인스의 “의식”과 앙리 베르그송의 “지성” 개념을 통해 과학적 세계관에는 시각적-공간적 사유의 경향이 있음을 확인하고 양인의 “양원적 정신”과 “직관” 개념을 통해 초자연적 세계관에는 청각적 사유의 패턴이 있음을 확인한다. 그리하여 이들 상반된 세계관은 각기 “눈의 세계관”과 “귀의 세계관”으로 부를 수 있을 것이라고 주장한다.
Abstract
Depending upon what kind of Weltanschauung we have, we interpret the meaning of our experiences, life, and the world in different way. Same experience could be a mere illusion or a token of blessed life. Life could be a suffering to be ceased or one to celebrate. Present study contrasts naturalism with supernaturalism and takes Sigmund Freud's "Scientific Weltanschauung" as a typical example of the former and C.S. Lewis' Christian Weltanschauung the latter. The author inquires of the epistemological ground which makes the contrasting World-views possible. Analyzing the Jaynes' concept of "consciousness" and Bergson's "intelligence", author confirms a kind of epistemological trend of visualization and spatialization in the scientific Weltanschauung on the one hand, and employing the concept of Jaynes' "bicamerality" and Bergson's "intuition" an aural trend in the Christian Weltanschauung on the other hand. As such author suggests a "Weltanschauung of the Eye" for the former, and a "Weltanschauung of the Ear" for the latter.
