The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of emotional contagion(positive,negative) on flight attendants' organizational commitment and burnout. Data is obtainedfrom a survey of 230 flight attendants of a major airline company in south Korea. Theresults are as follows: Positive emotional contagion enhances organizational commitmentwhile reducing burnout. On the contrary, negative emotional contagion is strictly correlatedwith only burnouts. These results suggest that service organizations such as the airlinecompanies to consider how to magnify the positive emotional contagions of both managersand employees in order to improve their overall performance and reduce burnouts.
Abstract
