이 논문은 ‘존재론적 미술비평’의 이론적 근거를 제시함을 목적으로 한다. ‘존재론적 미술비평’이란 미술비평 방법으로서 아직까지 일반화된 방법이 아니다. 굳이 기존의 미술비평 방법과 연결시킨다면 형식주의 비평방법과 유사하다고 할 수 있다.존재론적 미술비평이나 형식주의 미술비평, 양자 모두 작품 그 자체에 초점을 맞춘다는 점에서 공통점을 가진다. 그러나 형식주의 비평이 작품의 개성적 측면을 중시하는데 비해 존재론적 비평은 작품의 본질적 측면을 중시한다. 전자는 개개 작품의 형식적 구조를 분석하는 데만 몰두하지만, 후자는 작품 일반의 형식적 구조를 분석함은 물론 작품을 정신적 존재로 보고 작품의 이해와 해석은 곧 정신의 순환과정이라는 것까지 밝힘으로써 작품의 내재적 본질을 해명한다. 그런 의미에서 존재론적 미술비평은 형식주의 미술비평의 모태가 될 뿐만 아니라 비평일반의 토대를 제공하게 됨으로써 방법론으로서의 비평의 외연을 확장시킨다.존재론적 비평방법은 예술비평의 여러 가지 방법론에 대하여 근원적이면서도 새로운 하나의 지평을 열어 보이는 것일 수 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to exhibit the theoretical foundation of 'Ontological Art Criticism'. The 'Ontological Art Criticism' is one of the Art Criticisms but it is not generalized yet. If connected to the methods of established Art Criticisms, it is similar with the method of Formalistic Criticism. The Ontological Art Criticism and the Formalistic Art Criticism have something in common in the sense that both of them focus on the Work itself. However, the Ontological Art Criticism emphasizes the essential aspect of a Work while the Formalistic Art Criticism emphasizes the individual aspect of a Work. The Formalistic Art Criticism is deeply engaged in the analysis of the formal structure of each Work. However, the Ontological Art Criticism not only analyzes the formal structure of a Work but also elucidates the intrinsic essence of the Work by regarding a Work as a spiritual being and elucidating that the understanding and the interpretation of a Work is the circulation of spirit. In that sense, the Ontological Art Criticism is the root of the Formalistic Art Criticism and expands the extension of Criticism as methodology by providing the foundation of all Criticisms. The Ontological Criticising Method can be the way to open the fresh and fundamental horizon to several methodologies of Art Criticism.
