초록
This study investigates the quantitative distribution trends of regional festivals over time and space, focusing on era, region, and festival themes. It aims to analyze the linguistic features observed in the naming processes of regional festivals that experienced explosive growth since the mid-1990s. Utilizing the "Yearly Regional Festival Information Guide" provided by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the study reprocessed the data to perform a quantita- tive analysis. Results indicate that the quantitative expansion of regional festivals was gradual until the 1980s but surged dramatically in the 1990s and continued into the 2000s before entering a phase of stabilization in the 2010s. Regional disparities were evident, with sustained growth in the Gyeongsang region, contrasted by slower development in Jeju due to its abundant tourism resources. Since the 1990s, "local specialties" and "ecological nature" emerged as dominant themes, whereas "cultural arts" and "community harmony" regained prominence in the 2010s. The study also found that festival names shifted from using {-je}, reflecting ritualistic origins, to employing broader terms like {chukje} and incorporating diverse linguistic structures, including foreign words, especially after the 1990s. By analyzing the changes in naming practices alongside festival trends, this study contributes to a multidisciplinary under- standing of regional festivals, combining insights from tourism studies and Korean linguistics.
