Abstract
Views on Eurasia differ from country to country, such as China, Russia, and the United States. The different perspectives are proof that Eurasia is intertwined with the complex interests and conflicts among Eurasian countries. Therefore, this study intends to critically reflect on how the interests of the world powers collide over Eurasia by intensively analyzing C. Han’s “A Concept of Eurasia”. We chose Han’s thesis as the target of analysis for the following reasons: i) Until now, studies on Eurasia have mainly emphasized political and economic positions from European and American perspectives. However, to overcome this point of view, Han suggests the perspective of ‘sociocultural anthropology’; ii) It moves the center of Eurasia from the current center of Russia and China to ‘Western Europe’ while focusing on the study of the cultural diversity of the time by extending the origin of Eurasia to 1000 BC; iii) In particular, it was judged that it would be helpful to comprehensively understand the view of Eurasia of the world powers by adding the writings of 12 commentators with different majors and nationalities, along with Han’s review papers that reflected on them. Hyper-regional Eurasia, where more than 90 countries are in the same space, is a symbol of ‘great heterogeneity’. So, focus must be placed on the differences in history, religion, and culture of Eurasia above all else. That is a prerequisite for Eurasia to be reborn as a ‘cultural and civilized community’ which leads humankind, not as a battleground for hegemony. The global public good cannot be practiced in Eurasia unless each country’s sovereignty in the region is respected and all people in the region become masters.
