본 논문은 디지털 전환의 관점에서 멀티리터러시를 현실과 디지털 현실의 구축과 이해의 능력이라는 통합적 역량으로 규정하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 다양한 리터러시들(multiliteracies)은 디지털 전환 이후 다양한 소통 환경이 촉발됨으로써 등장하였다. 그러나 이 다양한 리터러시들이 때로 멀티리터러시(multiliteracy)와 혼동됨으로써, 다양한 리터러시들 및 멀티리터러시 개념의 등장이 갖고 있는 근본적 의미가 왜곡되고 있다. 이는 리터러시에 대한 기존 이해와도 밀접히 연관되어 있다. 우리는 그간 리터러시를 문자의 해석과 활용이라고 규정해왔다. 이로 인하여 리터러시를 현실과 세계에 대한 인간 활동이 아닌 그 활동의 수단으로만 이해하였다. 주어진 상황에 대응하는 도구로서, 다양한 소통 환경의 조성에 따른 도구의 다양화로서 이해된 것이 바로 멀티리터러시와 혼동되었던 다양한 리터러시들이다. 그러나 이 혼동에서 벗어나기 위해 우리는 다양한 리터러시들 역시 ‘리터러시’라는 점에서 본 논문은 다양한 리터러시들과 멀티리터러시를 구분해야 한다. 이에 본 논문은 사용되는 리터러시의 방식을 넘어 리터러시와 디지털 리터러시의 근본적 의미를 문자전환과 디지털 전환과 연관하여 추적하여, 리터러시가 인간의 세계와 현실과 긴밀한 관계를 맺고 있다는 점을 파악하였으며, 이를 통해 멀티리터러시가 우리의 다양한 현실, 즉 현실과 디지털 현실을 구축하고 그 세계를 이해하는 통합적 능력으로 이해되어야 한다는 점을 입증하고자 하였다.
Abstract
This paper tries to define multiliteracy as the competence of constructing and understanding reality and digital reality from the perspective of digital transformation. Multiliteracies sprang out by the divergent environments of communication after digital transformation. But both the meaning of multiliteracies and multiliteracy have been distorted, for multiliteracies have been confounded with multiliteracy. It is also related to the established understanding of literacy. We have defined literacy as an ability to understand and use letters. Thus we have understood it as a tool of human action, not as the human action to the reality and world. Multiliteracies confounded with multiliteracy are the result of understanding them as tools corresponding to given situations, as the diversification of tools. However, we have to distinguish multiliteracy from multiliteracies to straighten out the confounding problem. In this means, the writer tried to trace the fundamental meaning of literacy and digital literacy in the light of the word transformation and the digital transformation. Based on this tracing, we got aware that literacy is closely related to the human world. And we figured out that the fundamental meaning of multiliteracy is the integrated competence to construct and understand reality and digital reality.
