아렌트의 용서 담론 : '행위'와 용서할 수 없는 죄악에 대한 논의를 중심으로

아렌트는 『인간의 조건』에서 용서를 인간의 자유로운 행위의 취약성을 치유하는 가장 위대한 행위로 내세운다. 그런데 나중에는 ‘죄악(skandalon)’의 용서 불가능성을 거듭 표명함으로써 이전에 했던 자신의 주장을 무색하게 만든다. 본 논문은 아렌트의 용서 담론을 통합적으로 조망함으로써 그의 용서론의 역설에 담긴 의미를 드러내고자 한다. 『인간의 조건』의 행위론을 바탕에 두고 『책임과 판단』에서 되풀이 하여 언급되는 ‘죄악’에 대한 해석을 중심으로 용서 담론의 의의를 탐색하는 작업을 수행한다.
Abstract
In The Human Condition, Arendt presents the ‘power of forgiving’ which can heal the irreducibility of action as an essential and great action accompanying human action. But later on, Arendt repeatedly states the unforgivable. When intensively considering unforgivable evil (skandalon), 'forgiving' becomes 'powerless'. In order to more fully understand Arendt's concept of forgiveness, it is necessary to get closer to the core of the discourse through commentaries on evil(skandalon). This paper tries to carry out this work by focusing on the conception of 'action' and 'initiative' in The Human Condition and the interpretation of skandalon that is repeatedly mentioned in Responsibility and Judgment.
