The movie The Wandering Earth, which was officially released in China on February 5, 2019, can be said to be a masterpiece among Chinese science fiction films; similarly, Interstellar, which was released in 2014, is also a hard-core science fiction masterpiece in the West. In the two classic science fiction films The Wandering Earth and Interstellar, there is a common portrayal of heroic characters. As we all know, every country has a different culture. In the long history of continuous development, there are naturally cultural differences between countries with different cultural backgrounds, and these differences will be quietly projected on the films and TV shows of each country. in cultural works. So what are the differences between Chinese and Western understandings of the character “hero”? This article will take the science fiction film The Wandering Earth adapted from the representative work of the contemporary Chinese science fiction writer Liu Cixin and the Western science fiction film Interstellar jointly produced by the United Kingdom and the United States as the main research objects. Based on the perspective of heroism, a comparative analysis of the heroic characters in the two films will be conducted. The images and related story-lines will be used to further explore the similarities and differences between heroes presented in Chinese and Western movies, so that fans in the science fiction community can have a better and deeper understanding of Chinese and Western science fiction film cultures.
