Abstract : This study focused on developing new rotor core model of medium-sized induction motors to enhance productivity and increase electrical output power of induction motors. Numerical analyses with 3-dimensional quarter models were performed to investigate the filling patterns of aluminum molten metal into a mould after high speed injections; subsequently structural analyses performed to evaluate structural safety with imposing pressures induced by moving molten metals. The followings were obtained from filling pattern analysis of the molten metal and subsequent structural analysis of rotor core slot. First, a molten metal started to fill lower end ring, then moved up to fill core slot and upper end ring and finally stopped to fill at rotor core slot. A new molten metal, continuously supplied from a container, moved up to fill the remaining middle part of rotor core in height, finally resulting in the completion of filling. Secondly, the displacements and equivalent stresses with imposing pressure induced by the moving molten metal were found to be relatively small in y-direction for displacements, and to be about 40% of rotor core material yield stress for equivalent stress, resulting in securing safety of new rotor core model.
