초록

This study examines the origins, transmission status, and multifaceted value of the Xisai Shenzhu Festival, a Chinese national intangible cultural heritage, to illuminate its cultural significance and explore sustainable revitalization strategies in modern society. As one of China’s four UNESCO-listed Dragon Boat Festivals, the Xisai Shenzhu Festival is a traditional event held during the Dragon Boat Festival in Huangshi City, Hunan Province, integrating folk beliefs and regional culture. The festival encompasses diverse cultural elements, including agricultural traditions, Dragon Boat Festival customs, Taoist practices, and immortal worship, reflecting the wisdom, health aspirations, and blessings of local communities. The Shenzhu (divine talismans), central to the festival, serve as symbols reinforcing regional identity and embodying traditional cultural values. However, research on the Xisai Shenzhu Festival remains limited, and it faces challenges such as modernization pressures and sustainability concerns. By redefining the festival’s cultural value, this study proposes strategies to harmonize traditional preservation with contemporary development. It emphasizes the necessity of collaborative networks involving government agencies, local organizations, and residents, alongside initiatives to engage younger generations. Furthermore, revitalizing the festival is argued to contribute to local economic growth while enhancing cultural diversity and creativity. This research holds significance in offering both a theoretical framework for activating intangible cultural heritage and practical strategies to strengthen regional cultural industry competitiveness and generate cultural-economic value.
