Abstract
Taoist philosophy is one of the major schools of thought in ancient China. Based on the “Non-action” philosophy of Laozi and Zhuangzi, Taoist aesthetics approaches art and beauty through the principle of nat- uralness and non-interference. This study takes the concept of “Non-ac- tion” as its theoretical foundation and analyzes the contemporary dance work <Wu Wei> by French choreographer Yoann Bourgeois to explore how Taoist philosophy is embodied in contemporary dance. By examining the artistic application of stage design, physical movement, pauses, and spatial emptiness in the piece, the study reveals how the work internal- izes the philosophy of “Non-action” into a perceptible and experiential form of practice through openness and alignment with natural instincts. This research aims to highlight the vitality and expressive power of “Non-action” within the context of contemporary art and to promote the ongoing development of dance in a multicultural environment.
