Abstract
This study explores the potential of embodied oral history through a case study of the oral history project conducted with ballet educator Soo In Chin in 2023, as part of the Korean Modern and Contemporary Art Oral History Project supported by the ARKO Arts Archive. The concept of embodied oral history was developed to actively capture embodied ex- periences through video documentation. It emphasizes the performative and intertextual nature of oral and performative narratives by high- lighting the body that traverses past and present, the interplay between text and performance, and the generative, relational nature of knowledge co-produced by multiple agents. Unlike conventional oral history, em- bodied oral history positions the body as a dynamic archive in which lan- guage, performance, individual and collective memory, and temporal lay- ers converge. This approach contributes to diversifying the epistemo- logical and medial dimensions of dance knowledge.
