초록
This paper aims to elucidate Latinamericanity not from the perspective of causal theories, but from the perspective of constitutive theories. Causal theories seek to identify the mechanisms that lead from X to Y, and where X and Y exist independently, where X temporally precedes Y, and where without X, Y would not have occurred. Constitutive theories illuminate how units like X and Y came to be in the first place, and how they are constructed internally and/or externally. In the perspective of constitutive theories, Latinamericanity cannot be dealt with in isolation without including and analyzing the project of modernity. Considering the contest over the project of modernity as a crucial feature of the current conjuncture, it is not surprising that we find problematic the move of another intellectual project concerned with modernity, that of the modernity/coloniality. Before we cast the project of modernity in terms of reason, Enlightment, and secularism, it must be understood as a power relation, that is, domination and resistance, sovereignty and struggles for liberation. From the locus of enunciation of Latin America and its critical perspectives, this paper draws attention to Latin American historical experiences which have been the blind spots of postcolonial theories.
