This article analyzes the motive of peasant movements that occurred for the right to life in Paraguay, through the case of the ‘Curuguaty Masacre’ that was on June 15, 2012. Paraguay’s peasant movements arose because of the imbalance of land ownership from the result of failure of land reform. The problem of the land has originated the distortions of the political economy that was ‘tierra mal habidas’ at the time of Stroessner’s military dictatorship. The Stroessner transferred 6,744,005 hectares of agricultural land to the military and its politicians during the period 1954-1989. The main beneficiaries were ex-presidents Stroessner, Andrés Rodriguez and dictator Somoza of Nicaragua. This amount of land reached 28.1% of total agricultural land in the country. Finally, this study shows the distortions of political economy through the military dictatorship, and the reproduction of poverty and social inequality continues through the “Curuguaty Masacre”.
