초록
This article examines Ricardo Piglia as a writer who translated Maoist political thought into the literary field of 1970s Argentina. While studies of Latin American Maoism have centered on the armed conflict between radical leftist factions and military regimes, Maoism also inspired massoriented political and aesthetic projects beyond armed struggle. Focusing on Piglia’s short story, “Homenaje a Roberto Arlt,” in Nombre falso, this article examines how Piglia narrativizes a Maoist allegory of the intellectual–masses relationship. Building upon literary critic Bruno Bosteels’s reading, while also critically revising it, this article sheds light on the limits of Piglia’s Maoist fiction as an aesthetic representation of overcoming the intellectual–masses hierarchy by bringing in another key figure in Marxist mass discourse, Antonio Gramsci, and his conceptualization of the “organic intellectual.”
