Abstract

This study deals with a matter of ambiguity in analytics for ‘Maoism’ which is a difficult point of study for Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution. It is still one of issues what ideas of Mao Zedong about Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution are. Regardless of what the ideas are, Mao failed to differentiate his own ideas and theories at linguistic and theoretical level. As the result,discoursive structure of Maoism and Cultural Revolution was imprisoned in the framework of traditional socialist revolution discourse called ‘capitalism vs socialism’. So, there occurred unique ambiguity in analytics where completely different interpretation and viewpoint between Mao and his opponents shares same discoursive structure and predicate system. In the process where Mao and his opponents were submitting different viewpoint in interpretation about Cultural Revolution each other and such situation was deepened, the concept of Maoism changed to ambiguous and unstable concept gradually. This study interpreted such one as ‘symbolization’ process of Maoism. Mao image and propaganda material sharply increased in the period of Cultural Revolution were ideological substitutes supporting theoretical instability of such (symbolized Maoism). At the same time, Mao image and propaganda material were hard shell that disturbs interpretation about ideology called Cultural Revolution. So, today it is essentially necessary for us to remove shell of symbolism called Maoism in order to approach reality of Cultural Revolution. This is one of challenging tasks given to today’s Chinese the new leftists.
