Abstract
Uprising methane from the source rock can be formed into hydrate by physical combination with water under appropriate temperature and pressure condition. Besides them, it was found that the injection rate can affect the formation of hydrate in case of carbon dioxide. In this study, formation temperature of methane hydrate has been measured using isobaric method to investigate the effect of injection rate of methane on formation condition of methane in porous rock samples. The injection rates of methane were controlled using a mass flow controller from 0 to 160 sccm. To minimize Memory effect, system temperature increased to 303K for the dissociation of methane hydrate and re-established the initial saturation. The results shows that the formation temperature of hydrate decreases with increasing the injection rate of methane. This indicates that the velocity of methane in porous media may act as kinds of inhibitor for the formation of hydrate. Also, it implies that the depth of methane hydrate formations may be changed depending on the uprising velocities of methane through deep sub-seabed.
