Abstract
For safe subterranean disposal of CO2 in hydrate, it is necessary to investigate formation and equilibrium condition of CO2 hydrate, and factors affecting them in natural porous media. Previous studies on hydrate have been focused on hydrate of methane and the bulk test. In this study, experiments were conducted using three kinds of Berea sandstone with absolute permeability 9, 28 and 110 md. Isochoric operation was applied to examine the effects of initial saturation and pore size on hydrate formation and equilibrium condition. The experiments show that lower formation temperature is required with increasing initial saturation above 274K, while the effect of initial saturation is negligible below 273K. Though limited experiments have been conducted, lower formation temperature is required with decreasing pore size. However, there is no effect of initial saturation and pore size on equilibrium condition. This study can be useful data for permanent subterranean disposal of CO2 in the future.
