이 연구는 빈곤국가의 테러발생에 영향을 미치는 요인을 상대적 박탈이론에 근거해서 실증적으로 검증하는데 그 목적이 있다. 즉 이 연구는 테러의 발생원인 중 하나로 알려진 빈곤을 통해 연구를 진행했으며, 관련 선행연구에서 논쟁이 되고 있는 빈곤이 과연 테러의 원인인가를 검증하고자 하였다. 빈곤은 주로 GDP 변수를 통해 분석이 이루어졌는데, 이는 상대적 박탈 이론의 이론적 논거에 부합하지 않은 방법이기 때문에 이 연구에서는 빈곤인구 비율을 주요한 변수로 사용했다. 또한 기존 연구에서는 검증되지 않았지만, 테러조직 또는 테러국가의 주요 목적 중 하나인 경제적 이득에 실제로 테러가 유의미한 영향을 미치는지 확인하고자 했다. 이를 위해 종속변수로 국가별 GDP를 사용해 분석을 실시했다. 분석결과, 빈곤국가의 경우 자살테러와 테러발생의 빈도가 다른국가에 비해 높은 비율을 나타났으며, 지속적으로 증가하는 추세를 보였다. 최종 분석결과, 빈곤지수를 통해 확인된 빈곤국가는 자살테러 실행에 영향을 주는 변수로 나타났으며, 자살테러는 GDP의 증가에 유의미한 영향을 미치고 있었다. 이 연구결과는 빈곤을 통해 발생되는 자살테러가 GDP의 증가에도 영향을 미침으로써 악순환이 반복될 수 있음을 보여주었다. 자살테러를 위해 많은 경제적 비용이 필요하다는 비교적 최근 연구결과를 뒷받침해주었다. 즉 경제여건의 호전은 이 다시 테러시도를 위한 조건이 될 수 있다는 점에서 테러국가의 국민들이 자신의 의지 없이 테러에 가담하게 되는 악순환이 반복된다는 것을 시사해주었다. 끝으로, 이 연구의 한계와 함께 국제사회에서 다루어야 할 몇 가지 정책적 제언을 제시했다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to empirically verify the factors affecting terrorist incidence in poor countries based on the theory of relative deprivation. In other words, the study was conducted through poverty, which is one of the causes of terrorism, and to examine whether poverty, which is controversial in the related studies, is the cause of terrorism. Poverty is mainly analyzed through GDP variables, which is a method that is not consistent with the theoretical argument of relative deprivation theory, so the current study used the percentage of poverty as a major variable. Although not validated in previous studies, the study sought to see whether terrorism has a significant impact on economic gains, one of the main objectives of terrorist organizations or terrorist countries. To do this, this study analyzed country-specific GDP as a dependent variable. As a result, suicide terrorist attacks and terrorist incidents in the poor countries were higher than other countries, and they showed a tendency to increase continuously. As a result of the final analysis, the poor countries identified through the poverty index were the variables affecting suicide terrorism execution, and suicide terrorism had a significant effect on the increase of GDP. The results of this study showed that suicide terrorism, which is caused by poverty, can affect the vicious cycle by affecting the increase of GDP. Supporting a relatively recent study of the need for significant economic costs for suicide terrorism. In other words, the improvement of the economic condition could be a condition for the terrorist attempt again, suggesting that the people of the terrorist nation will repeat the vicious cycle of participating in the terror without their will. Finally, the implications and limitations of this study and some policy recommendations to be considered in the international community are suggested.
