Abstract

This qualitative study sought to explore kindergarten teachers' risk factors and protective factors that influence teachers' resilience. For this purpose, 10 teachers were surveyed using essays, open-ended questionnaires, and in-depth interviews. The overall findings of this study are as follows. The risk factors were divided into personal factors, family factors and social factors. Poor health and the difficult temperament were found to be personal risk factors. The lack of interaction with family and support from family and difficulties as a mother were found to be family risk factors. There were a variety of social risk factors: conflict with their principals, other teachers and children's parents, low social recognition and low wage, systematic troubles in dealing with unstable employment and the lack of support for teachers in sick leave, pregnancy, delivery etc. The protective factors were divided into personal factors, family factors, social factors and professional factors. Personal protective factors included forgiveness, resistance, optimism and hope, religious spirituality, positive self-concept, internal locus of control and initiative. Acceptance and esteem in family were found to be family prospective factors. The feeling of bond and trust with their principals and other teachers, support from children's parents were found to be social protective factors. Professional protective factors included resourcefulness, critical thinking and insight, planning, mastery, goal direction and achievement motivation, satisfaction from educational accomplishments. Based on this discussion, a few suggestions were provided to lower teacher's risk factors and boost teachers' protective factors.
